Candles are not a very safe way of lighting and often cause fires. This simple hack makes the use of candles much safer. The candle has a stable stand and if it falls over, the sand will extinguish the flame (in most cases). Still, if you can, use other sources of lighting, e.g. solar lights.

What you need

a tin
clean sand
a candle
a cutter
optional: paint / tape to make the tin look nicer

How you make it

Optional: Decorate/paint your tin

Cut the candle in half so that you have two smaller candles

Fill the tin with sand

Place the candle in the sand. Ensure it sits stably

Use the candle

Always place the candle well away from open windows and curtains. Make sure that your children don’t play with the candle. a
