What you need

How you make it

Select a space that you want to change

This can be a dump site e.g. near your house, close to a school or in the middle of your community.

Mobilise people to support you

Go around your community from door to door. Tell people about your plans and ask for their support. Support can be money, paint, tools, plants or physical help. Show them pictures how the space could look like. Tell them how they could benefit from the new space.

Important: you need people that are also willing to maintain the place, e.g. by watering the plants. Although ask for this.

Business owners are usually the most supportive.

Mobilise the children in your community to help you

Ask the youth in the community to help you cleaning the site. Most parents are extremely happy if their kids have something to do - especially if they even learn new skills.

Start to clean up the space and make heaps for the different recycables

Sort the recycables into: paper, plastic, organic materials, metals, stones, … and make a heap for things that are not recycable (like nappies).

Don’t forget to wear gloves and a mask to protect yourself from diseases.

If you don’t have enough old tyres, go around the community and collect more.

Make tyre planters, seats and tables

you can use the stones, cartboard, organic material for it.

Find the detailed instruction how to make tyre planters: link, seats: link or tables: link.

If you found special things during your clean-up - think how you could integrate them

For example make a sculpure from old bicycle parts

Bring the rest of the rubbish to the drop off point in your community
