What you need

How you make it

Look for a good spot for your tyre planter

It is important that the spot fits to the plants you want to have - if it has to be a sunny, wind protected or shady place. It is also important to think about the water. If your plant needs a lot of water, there should be a water source close by. Indigenous plants are the most robust. They are very well suited to beautify your community because they do not need as much water and care. Find them wildly growing around/outside your community.

Put bricks into the sides of the tyre.

This is important to keep the tyre in place.

Optional: Put a plastic foil with little holes underneath the tyre and fix it with the bricks. That will hold the water / moisture in your planter.

Optional: For a higher planter take a second and third tyre

Stack the tyres and fill the sides with bricks and sand.

Fill the tyre(s) almost full with a mixture of compost and top soil.

If you do not have compost, you can also use kitchen scraps (like fruit peels)This will add nutrients to your soil.

Paint the tyre(s).

Let the paint dry before you start planting.

Water the planter and start planting.
