Growing Peas, Beans and Mielies from seeds

Peas, beans and mielies can be grown from seeds that are sown directly into a bed. Learn here how.

How you make it

Get your seeds

Buy them or take dried peas, beans or mielies.

Prepare your plot

For a plot of the size of a door you need a 10 litre bucket of manure. For each square meter you can add a handful of bone meal or fertilizer. Dig this in the top 15cm and level the bed.

Choose the right spacing between rows and seeds

Peas and beans need about 10cm between seeds and 30cm between rows, while mielies need about 40cm between seeds and about 40cm between rows.

Plant the seeds 2-3cm deep and

Cover the seeds with soil

Water until soil is a finger deep moist
